February Update

Those who have been following for a while would know February is the one month where I go into survival mode. One month out of the whole year I don’t look forward to. I err on the side of being cautious when entering into the month. Things do go bad-very bad- within a span of 28 days. I can say nothing major happened this time-thank God!

With that said here is what happened while I was offline in the month of February.Look at this #zulilyfind! Brooks Capri & Celestial Ravenna 6 Running Shoe - Women by Brooks #zulilyfinds size 10: I started my intense training for Rock n’ Roll half marathon I will be participating in June. I am look forward to accomplishing this goal of running a half marathon and doing it for a good cause (Saint Jude Children’s Hospital). Now since I bought my first Brooks Running shoes on clearance at DSW, I will have to make good on this promise to myself! I never knew a pair of running shoes would be a major motivator to run this race. Come June I will be “Run Happy” as the Brooks’ running campaign slogan says. So far I have kept my 5k and 10k pace, so I will just need to work on keeping them at a longer distance.

A friend got engaged to a man she met online two months ago in the beginning of February, and for the rest of the month I have been trying to figure out how I feel about this surprise. So far I feel as if I am not a great friend when I smile and act as I’m happy for her engagement when I really am not. I feel this may come across as jealous, but that is far from the truth.  I just see a huge red flag called committing to early before really knowing the person, red flag. I guess some people just know this is the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with very early on in a relationship. I hope this works out in the end.

I finished another book called, Loveology by John Nark Comer. The book talks about what God’s plan for love, relationships and marriage. One tidbit I pulled from this book was the four marks of a relationship that leads to marriage.
The Chase: Man’s job is to pursue, and draw out the women into a relationship. But it is a two way street where both take risks to build a relationship. A disheartening trait of a man is considered cowardice in the Scriptures.
The Line: Don’t wake up the sexual part of the relationship until the relationship can be followed all the way through. Right time will happen.
The Friends: Speak good things about them to others, and the couple is never alone because they have support from friends as well as family. Going Somewhere: No rush, no hurry, but a relationship that is continuing to grow through the relationship.

I will be continuing to train for the half marathon in the next three months. Looking at my calendar for March, it looks as a busy month of events. Stay tune to find out!

New Sports Fan Is Born In 2014

78ddb69eb431207f97d9de71bf6876ca

I use to be one of those people like the guy above. Regarding every sport with a form of being clueless. This year however, I had to learn fast because M is an immense sports fan. Ask him about any sports (except the absurd ones like Shinty) and he will tell you all about it. I have been a fan of the Seattle Sounders, and have been to a few games before M came on the scene. Yet this year, the world of professional sports was thrown open wide for me to experience.

Seahawks Superbowl Championship

In February the Seattle Seahawks won the Superbowl Championship against the Denver Broncos. Our city’s first Superbowl victory and our second time as a team playing. The nail-biting, the Skittles flying, and the celebration after made for one crazy Sunday night and one epic ending to the 2013-2014 Seahawks season. My work’s tailgating party brought us all together for on huge party like we have never had in a very long time. I got a “12 Man Manicure” for the games, and I even bought me two Seahawks t-shirts to wear on Blue Friday. You can say I’m not a hard-core fan as my boyfriend is, and I will admit I probably the “bandwagon” fan more than pretending to be a super fan all along. Either way I had a chance to celebrate like everyone in Seattle did and I am very proud of the Seahawks for bring home the trophy and uniting the city again.

First Mariner’s Game:

I haven’t experienced a professional baseball game before until this past summer. I have drove past Safeco Field, and even grumble about the cost of it until M took me to a game. Now I can check this off my bucket list of things to see in Seattle. This would not come as a huge surprise for most, but this game, they didn’t even win. Bummer since it would have been nice for them to win on my first game experience. I will say this, I’m not a huge baseball fan like my boyfriend, and am still learning all the rules, lingo and yes, even how to play it properly. Would I go again? Maybe. I think I would like to have better seats next time so I could see what is really happening on the field since they were so far way from where our seats were located.

Seattle Sounders:

I’m a fan, but this is the first time in a very long time I have been to multiple matches. This year I went to two Sounders matches with Michael, one for our birthdays, and one unexpected tickets from a friend. Both times M made it worth it with all his knowledge about what happening on the field at any given moment and how entertaining he was to watch throughout the game when cheering (same dance as when the Seahawks score or win on TV).

Did Someone say Olympics?

I watched maybe two other sporting events besides the ice skating event (who doesn’t watch that event?).  All I have to say is how interesting some of the events get. For the first time I was rooting for team USA to win not only in figure skating, but some of the other events not normal for the USA to win. Did we get a lot of medals? Yes. Did USA come out at least in the top five countries? Yes. Olympics this year were boring in comparison, but what made it worth watching, was seeing the USA take a top spot overall.

Watching Two Sounders Play In The World Cup:

A proud moment to watch two of the best Seattle Sounders players play at the World Cup in Brazil. The company I work for had one big tailgating party for the opening game, and throughout the whole event, had people rooting for different teams. The best part, seeing Team USA make it through the Group of Death to the second round of play off. Even after being beaten out, it was fantastic to see the world take notice of how far USA soccer team has come since the last time played. Plus seeing two of our best players from Seattle play against some of the best players from around the world was a proud moment.

Now I can say I’m nothing like the guy in the above picture. I can regard every sport with out clueless and be able to know what is going on without boring me to tears. Maybe in the 2015 there will be more time to go to games and cheer on Seattle sports teams.

Last Two Months of Summer

Wow! Where did the time go? It’s the end of August and I still haven’t posted all that has happened in the month of July. I better start…

 Decorating the new apartment

While decorating my new apartment, Mom and I went to the Goodwill in Shoreline looking for an old mirror to do up. We ended up with a mirror along with another find I never expected. There sitting in the middle of the store was a perfect conditioned microfiber love seat for only $45.00! I ended up snatching that couch up on the spot and called Dad to come with his pickup to haul it to my apartment. I guess it was a day the gods of couches was looking down on me, or I would still be looking for a couch.

 Mini adventures during the week

One day I decided to take a little trip to Golden Gardens to take advantage of the sunshine. I have been so use to the beaches up in North Seattle area, and so I decide to need explore more of the parks around Seattle.

On the nice sunny days during the work week I would take a 30 minute lunch run around South Lake Union park. Mostly there are other runners, walkers, bicycles, and summer campers in the park. This makes a fantastic people watching moments and you could see all the tech workers hanging out on their lunch break.

Discovery Park adventure

10492135_10204607376531344_6478657593486603032_n

For a while I have been wanting to explore more of Discovery Park. M’s apartment is just walking distance to the park, so on the hottest day in Seattle we headed to the park for some lunch and to explore a new part of the park for me. I have seen the West Point Lighthouse before, so I wanted to see a part of the old Fort Lawson and see the old buildings that are left over from when the officially closed. Being the hottest day in Seattle, poor M started melt in the heat and sun. I feel sorry for dragging him out during the hottest part of the day with not much shade to be had. I ended up getting very good shots of the old falling apart buildings of the former base.

Lab Monkey Strikes!

Funny thing to put “I love lab monkey” on my bio safety cabinet window, only to come in the next morning to someone drawing a picture of said monkey. Science is not all seriousness. When you have an awesome team of people we just are like family playing practical jokes on each other.

 Adventures with Megan.

When Megan is in town things become more like a non stop fun fest. This girl is a kick in the pants to be around and you never have a dull moment with her. Case in point the Happy Meals On Crack. Why did Mc-D’s decide to put a very scary happy face on the side of a children’s food box? Was someone very-or should say a team of creatives/marketing high when they came up with the idea?

Megan:” is it my hangover making this box look creepy?”

Me: ” Nope, the box is creepy.”

Megan: “Looks like it is on crack.”

Me: (putting the psychedelic glasses it came with it on it)

Me: ” More like on acid!”

Just look at the pictures. One friend on Facebook wrote “Holy cow!”  Then you have to ask why two adults be buying Happy Meals? We were hung over and tired to care about what form our food came in.  Maybe creepy faces are our punishment for thinking we are kids when we are not.

10552600_10204736696964274_6584049003141113686_n

A few days we checked out my apartment’s pool and sauna. Conclusion, decent enough to swim in, and lay beside. After sunning ourselves, we decided to head to Roy’s in Edmonds for a Mac and Jacks and a burger before she left for Pullman for one last year of college.

BBQ Galore!

August was the month of BBQ! I guess with all the great hot weather Seattle has been getting lately it was time to get serious about BBQ-ing. At work we had a total of two BBQ done of the sun deck with everyone attending. A huge success since many of the social events fail terribly. M bought a Weber BBQ a year ago and never had used it until now! Our first BBQ adventure was making hamburgers and then moved on to hotdogs. Both times turned out well, and M’s BBQ-ing is up there with how my Dad does it, so M is a keeper.  At the end of August the church I attend puts on a community BBQ called Grill and Chill. This year there was BBQ hotdogs and a lot of entertainment. The bottle rocket station was one of M’s favorite things to watch, and I am guessing if he could, he would have been up there with the kids letting them off.  After the Grill and Chill BBQ, I have eaten my last BBQ hotdog for a while.

Summer Movie Nights

Saw a few new and old movies this summer. The church puts on a free movie night in the back parking lot of the church for a family movie night. This summer it was the movie Frozen, and all snacks had the Frozen theme. I’m a sucker for Disney movies (grew up on them) and was in heaven to just to be a kid again laughing at all childish jokes. Two weekends later I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy at the Majestic Bay Theater in Ballard with M and M’s friend Al. The movie was good and would say more of a guys movie then a girls one. I love to watch the Marvel Comic movies, and at that point I feel like I’m a bro-girl when I go see them with M. I would recommend seeing the movie if you like misfit superheros, but it is not really for kids since there are adult jokes that will go over any kids heads.

Oh, and the Seahawks are back to defend the Super Bowl title.

On a group lunch date I had the 12th Man sushi roll at I Love Sushi in South Lake Union. Go Seahawks!

Play Ball Boys! First Seattle Mariner Game

IMG_0958

Hard to believe being a born and raised Seattlelite that I have never been to a Mariners game. I have always wanted to go and experience what all the hype was about, but there was never anyone wanting to go or ever asked me. This changed when I was asked by M if I wanted to go to a game with him and his friends. Of course I jumped on it. The game I went to was the Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles. For some apparent reason I want to call Baltimore Orioles “Oreos’.” Yes I did receive dirty looks from a few Orioles fans when I accidentally called them Oreos’.

Our outing started with a trip to one of the many food trucks parked outside the ballpark. Between  M and his friends, this is what they both do when ever they go to a sports game. The food truck of choice was the El Camion for their huge burritos before the game dinner. The burritos were spicy and hot enough to make me not able to feel my lips after a few bites. Overall a great food truck to eat from. I unfortunately I did not sample the stadium food, especially the famous garlic fries that M’s friend told me is a right of passage for the first time you go to the game. After a while I think I could have lived without trying the fries since the smell after awhile started to become nauseating. I think I could pass on them, and go from something else next time.

Whats going on?

View from our seats

Our seats were in the sunny outfield of the stadium in the lower half of the bottom deck. For the first three innings we were in the sunshine, which made it a little hard to see what was happening around the bases until it went behind the stadium. I will admit I have never been a huge baseball fan, and have found major league baseball to be boring (Little League has more excitement most of the time). Being between two baseball experts (both played baseball from little league through high school) made the game a little more exciting to hear with much crazy banter they both got into at times. Towards the later innings I started getting restless and may have started to drive M nuts with me asking when the 7th inning stretch was going to happen. Apparently in the middle of the seventh inning, stretching means to standup and sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame, than sit back down. Um that is not what I call a “stretch.” I think I will just chalk it up to me being a clueless baseball fan. M is slowly teaching me what I need to know about baseball, and other sports like golf (golf is even more boring than baseball!).

Lemonade with a whole lemon!

Towards the eight inning I needed to have a lemonade. Lets say this was the only time I have ever witnessed how fast an exchange of goods can go. Within thirty seconds I had the lemonade guy give me my lemonade and my change in my hand. M and his friend commented on this, as they never seen anything like it before. This is the same lemonade sold at all the Sounders and Seahawks games and something I look forward to every time.

Unfortunately the Mariners lost the game when an umpire said one of the players did not have his foot on the base when the first base catcher caught the ball. This sent the whole Mainers fans in the stadium almost over the edge. At one point  a fly ball went into the stands in our section and a fan defiantly threw it back on to the field and that is when things started to be thrown on to the field. According to many fans, this rarely happens at the games because if you throw something on the field it is grounds of being kicked out or worse. At this time M and his friend wanted to leave before the fireworks started and to avoid a whole crowd of people leaving at the sometime. AS we were leaving it looked like people had the same idea as we did. There were crowds of people surging out of the stadium. From the backseat of the car I did see the fireworks as we left. Looked like any old fireworks display to seen at a fourth of July show. When Michael and I go home, we both were so tired from a very long and exciting day (or exciting for me mostly).

My first Mariner game was an experience to check off my list of things I have done. I still am not sure if I want to go again. I think I would like to go to another game if the Mariners won a few more games. Will see what next year will bring.

12th Man x 4 = Super Bowl 48!

Blue and Green! Go hawks!

_DSC0048

All started right after the win. The boys looked at each other and said now on to the Super Bowl for the win of a lifetime while dumping Skittles over themselves. Next morning, a co-worker of mine started planning the whole building’s Super Bowl Tailgating party. Within two weeks all of Seattle and the country was a buzzed with speculation on the two teams (from the only two states with legalized marijuana use) in winning the Super Bowl. It has been a very exciting two weeks, and the whole of Seattle with a non stop party for the team who has taken the NFL by storm this season. Also this is the season I have become a Seahawks fan all over again. And I cannot complain!

Tuesday before the Super Bowl our work had a tailgating party in support of our Seahawks. The tailgating party ended up being over sixty plus people showing up and precipitating in what we like to call “team building” activities together. Took a lot of planning in a short period of time to grill fifteen pounds of hamburger and hot dogs for all of us. Even after all that we had lots of left overs! But we did get the Costco sized boxes of Skittles before the “great” shortage of Skittles happened on Sunday.

At most tailgating parties we had beer and soda, but the one thing we did decided to do was the Skittle Jell-O Vodka shots in the Seahawks colors. I will admit, we used cheap vodka for this, and so the blue had a taste of cough syrup and the green had a very strong lime vodka flavored that I almost choked on with the Jell-O.

Taking a shot for the team
Taking a shot for the team

One very fun thing we did was have a pinata that was made into a Denver Bronco (ok it was a My Little Pony Unicorn one….we had to improvise!). The day before the party the My Little Brony was ok, but some how between the afternoon of hanging him up, someone as a practical joke on the Hawks fan put a yellow rubber chicken with the 12th Man logo on the chest and put it in the mouth of the Bronco. The Bronco had turned into a vampire bronco with fangs and blood all over its mouth for added effect.

Too bad My Little Bronco did not survive the destruction we all took out on it. Poor thing did not have a chance at all!

Has no legs now!
Super Bowl Sunday came and I was ready for the intense game starting at three West Coast time. My boyfriend and I were invited to a small friend’s Super Bowl Party at his house. As a team, we both made Buffalo Potato Wedges ( recommended dunking them in Buffalo sauce before baking them-it taste really good!) and Jalapeno Popper Dip. Both had rave reviews from the party.

Game time came and boy were we all surprised at how the score turned out! Most of us thought the game was going to be a close one with the Broncos putting up a fight at least. The first 12 seconds of the game was a big surprise! The ball went whizzing past Payton Manning’s helmet! And the look on his face through the whole game was just complete shock. The whole game the guys were down in the Man cave watching on huge flat screen while all of us girls were upstairs watching it in the living room. You can say it was male bonding moment down stairs and girl time upstairs. Through the whole game, the downstairs TV had a thirty-second delay, so when there was a touch down, they would see it thirty seconds after us. At times there were funny moments because you would hear them downstairs laughing at an ad right after us. I guess you had to been there to know. My excited boyfriend had to run up the stairs every time we scored a touch down with the Skittles. Towards the end of the game we had to be rushed out one Skittle because we started running out of them.

Then it was the moment of truth…….

The Seahawks won the Super Bowl! The whole party erupted into cheers and you could hear the firework exploding off the Space Needle from where we were. A victory for Seattle! The score was unbelievable, and the whole city of Seattle parties well into the night.

As we were leaving my boyfriend’s friend’s house up along Queen Ann, there was lots of people in the streets celebrating like crazy. Just seeing how joyful of a celebration of a super bowl win on the city was apparent on the local news.

Two hours later my boyfriend was super excited over the win that he went out to the local Sports Authority and bought himself some of the Super Bowl champions gear they were starting to put out. Too bad the shirt he got me did not fit, so he will be taking it back to exchange it for a size that will fit me. How thoughtful of him!

Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks and all the 12th Man fans for winning the 48th Super Bowl! You all worked very hard for this. For the Denver Broncos, you had an amazing season as well. Congratulations on making it to the Super Bowl again and winning the AFC championship title!
